The Finns have many rotating towers and I've got pictures of one that
used an automobile steering wheel, shaft and gearbox. The steering wheel was
in
the shack and the shaft went thru the wall to the bottom of the tower.
Clever, cheap and worked FB.

He had a small piece of rope attached to the tower and it went into the
shack thru a number of pulleys with a weight on the end. It had an arrow on
it and as the tower turned, the pointer moved to different heading
indications. Again, clever, cheap and worked FB.
