I know the reputation for copper being hard to drill/tap, but I've never found 
it that bad.  Particularly with tapping, I'd make sure I was only trying to do 
say a 60% thread or so.  What I have NOT tried, and MIGHT work well is a 
"thread forming" tap, taking advantage of the coppers ductility
