Hello Rick:

I do not use the TIC boom truss kit to support the booms of my Yagi's with
the TIC rings at K3LR (16 in service).

I use the truss in the photo below. This way you can install the antenna
with the truss already set in place before it goes into the ring cradle. The
boom guy is pre-tensioned 92 to 3 inches of sag) and the boom is perfectly
straight (side to side).

I bought a used TIC ring that had been used to hold a
6 element 20 meter beam.  The single vertical support
had to be removed and replaced with two vertical supports
that straddle the area of the boom that is gripped by
the TIC ring.  There is a horizontal bar that goes between
the two vertical posts to allow tensioning.

So you need the truss kit if your beam uses a truss.
