Hello,

The programs similar to hfta give you the most optimum heights at a given
location and take off angels. Howerver your specific height above actual
ground may not be known without using the proper equipment. Your actual
ground, in your loacation, may be inches to feet below the base of your
tower (something to consider).

All we average hams can do is use programs similar to HFTA, read books on
antennas (the ARRL handbook, Antenna books, ON4UN's books, etc.) to make an
optimum guess. If you have the ability to put up several 15m. yagi's great.
If not, use one and very the heighth of the yagi on the tower if possible
from 35 to 50 ft.and possible higher and see which one gives you the best
signal on a daily bases for the given area you want to cover.

Their are too many variables to say what heighth will definately work with a
given setup. Take what information you have gathered from various sources
and make your best informed decision based on your particular situation.

Finally, work with hams in your area to gather information from their
experiences.

Good luck,

Patrick, W4PV
