it's recommended to put anything on the tower section legs before joining them
to the next section...grease, graphite, anti-seize, etc?

I recommend using some sort of lubricant on the legs. Anything will
work; e.g. axle grease, bearing grease,Lubriplate, etc. It'll help them slide
together easily during assembly and disassembly.

If you're contemplating loading the tower, then I'd suggest some sort
of antioxidant. It'll make better electrical joints than anything else.

There's a whole chapter in my UP THE TOWER book on corrosion and lots
of assembly tips including using some grease on the legs.
