Lots o' tension in the guys under load, but hey, anything is possible.
23 degrees between guy and tower, so the tension in guy is 2.5 times the
horizontal load. Compared to the more usual 45 degrees and 1.4:1 ratio
between horizontal load and tension
If you think about it, there's sort of a continuum between "big heap of
dirt" to "pyramid" to "guyed tower" to "self supporting tower". It's all
about how you handle the tension loads on the upwind side, and the
compression loads on the downwind side.
And not all the designs are successful.. sometimes the loads are a bit
too high (Pyramid at Meidum), or exceed the design limits (Washington
monument). Sometimes it works ok (Eiffel tower, CN tower)
