We had the same experience with the 4:1 baluns on the KT34XA and 40M4 at W6UE. Something on order of twenty years of service with no problems (with the baluns anyway- 40M4 is another story). I should note that I am not sure how much full power RTTY that included (mostly SSB/CW I suspect). In any case, as a 4:1 impedance transformer, the KLM balun worked fine for us and seems reliable. My only concern with that balun is how effective it is at preventing feedline radiation compare to a conventional choke balun. Of course there is no reason why you couldn't put a know good 1:1 choke balun (like one of the K9YC designs) in series between the KLM 4:1 balun and the coax.

I'm not a big fan of the packaging of those I see on the balundesign website.
Since the design is significantly different, I'd be curious if it changed the
tuning/match on a KT34/6 and how best to mount the box on the boom.

They are all current baluns. Can't remember the rationale . Asked this question

probably want
his model #4125 which is a 4:1 5kw.

I'm rebuilding a KT34XA and installing the KT36 upgrade kit plus new style
boom to element clamps. Right now I plan to use the new 3KW balun I got from
M2. Is there something better out there I should consider? I believe Balun
Designs makes excellent high quality products that work.

The KT-36 is 200 ohms feed point impedance. Not 50 ohms. I though I better
clarify.

Which balun do you recommend for the M2 KT36? A voltage balun or a current
balun? I run 1500 watts during RTTY contests.

I'm planning on winding my own. I have Jerry Sevick's book on building them.

Thanks!
