Most of the telescoping poles are superior to the surplus poles. I've seen
a number of attempts to raise supports with the surplus tubes fail when the
tube shattered.
The telescoping tubes are lighter at one end than the other. If you could
use two in a v arrangement, with your wire or rope helping stabilize the
high end under tension that is something to consider.
The MGS heavy duty pole is my favorite. I have a couple of them.
