Depends on the industry. Most automotive applications are heavy users of thread locking adhesives. Take a frame, body, or suspension bolt out, and likely as not, there's a blue stripe on it.

In space applications, we tend not to use thread locking adhesives: tradition, careful measurement of running and final torque, and lots of staking of the heads/nuts using external adhesives. There's also always a concern about outgassing, although I'm sure one could find threadlocking adhesives that don't outgas.

We do use Solithane sometimes.
