Before LDF was HSJ foam-dielectric Heliax, which was helical (spiral)
corrugation.  But LDF and later are annular.

Also, HJ series (air dielectric) is still helical corrugation.

All of the modern, foam-dielectric, NON-"Superflex" Heliax-type cables from
Commscope, RFS, Eupen, et al, are annular corrugation, not helical.

I suspect - couldn't find "the history of Heliax" anywhere - that the name Heliax referred to the original helical construction, and Andrew decided to keep the name even for their annular cables.
