Here's an interesting report done by SRI during the late 60s, early 70s.

"SUMMARY OF MEASURMENTS AND MODELING OF THE RADIATION PATTERNS OF SIMPLE HF FIELD ANTENNAS IN OPEN (LEVEL) TERRAIN, MOUNTAINS, AND FORESTS"
By Barker, Taylor and Hagn.



They measured far field patterns with a probe towed by a helicopter for various HF antennas in forested and un-forested areas (Lodi, Lake Almanor, and Thailand)

dipoles, OCF dipoles, slant wires, inverted L, etc.
