Last month I built a 40M vertical Dipole, resonant, full size and fed with
a current balun. I hung it from my mid tower antenna support rope with the
end support at 110'. Worked well and almost flat SWR across the band. I
then installed a 40 meter full size flat top dipole from the same mid tower
rope, at the same height, about 20' apart. A/B Tests showed 2 full S Units
on receive in favor of the flat top on almost every signal heard over
several nights.
Just saying - I don't think I'd get too excited about a ground mounted
vertical dipole.
