I noticed fewer people on 50 MHz MSK144 Sunday morning of the contest as well.
With FT8, you would often get the infamous "One and Done" decodes of stations
on meteor scatter. It is difficult to complete a contact. These may have been
completed on MSK144.
John, KF0M was on 50 MHz FT4 in the June VHF contest and found it much better
than FT8. Less QRM and higher rate.

Somehow, FT4 has become a forgotten mode in recent years.? It is a much better
mode for making QSOs when QSB is at play, whether it is Es or distant
tropospheric conditions. Majority of the distant QSOs are made when signals
finally appear out of the noise for a short period of time. Then they disappear
until the next cycle. Maybe, aircraft scatter is at play more than we know.
