Started as an all-out all-band effort. 8 minutes into it, I realized that my
2-rig switching was hosed, so went to a 20M only effort. 6 hours into it,
my new (to me) Commander HF-2500 failed - rather brilliantly at that.
Swapped in the old trusty AL-1200 and kept going. Wondered why I
had so much trouble breaking non-EU pileups when I realized that my
StackMatch was not working either, so I always had the lower antenna
to Eu switched in whether I wanted it or not. No spectacular rates at all -
just plugged along. Top hour was 82 in the 08Z hour. We had a nice
European sunrise opening here that perhaps did not reach much of the
US. Managed to hit 1000 Qs the first day.
Laid down for an intended 2-hour nap at 02Z and slept right thru the
alarm until Sunday AM. Frustrated, I just turned over and finished the
night's sleep. Stubbornly avoided getting on the air for a while Sunday
and finally convinced myself to finish it out.
Nice to see that so many others were able to enjoy the weekend after
such ominous propagation predictions.
