Rig: FT-1000MP
Antennas: 80/40m wire doublet, 40m delta loop (tunes to 160), TA-33 @ 50ft.

Condx were anything but favorable from here in central WV. At times, I thought
my antennas were on the ground or, I had finally driven my neighbor to the
point of pinning my coax. And it wasn't enough that signals sounded about 40dB
down, the unrelenting QRN added to the challenge.

I didn't start the contest until after the first half hour. I spent that time
listening to 10 and 15 trying to figure out where everyone was-- hey this was
supposed to be a contest and I expected to hear signals, a lot of signals.
When I realized that this was about as good as it was going to get, I jumped
in.

20m seemed to be the strongest band signal-wise. I should've spent more time
there early on and then moved to 40. I think I spent way too much time on 15
and listening on 10m in hopes it would have a resurrection (Will Viagra work on
10m??) My CQs generated intermittent pile-ups of 2 or 3 stations but those
were with significant lapses in time. Thanks to those of you who did come back
to my calls!

On the up side, I did get some much needed CW practice for the coming contest
season. I guess you could consider me a fairly new CW contest op. I am slowly
buildig the stamina and endurance this contest mode requires.

This past week I constucted one of the serial keying circuits to my computer.
During the contest, I did get some RF into the computer when I had my beam
pointed due south. I think it was getting into this cable. Anyway, to you
folks down in FL who heard some really strange CW gibberish coming from my
station, that is what happened. I was not speaking in tougues.

Glad to pass the WV mult to several folks who asked for a QSY. I figured since
condx were so crappy here, I might as well try to help some folks who
apparently were experiencing better....

See ya'll in a couple weeks!

73 de Hal, KC8FS
