Comments:
Congratulations to the K3LR team for their remarkable effort in the
face of difficult conditions, particularly on 40 meters the first night
when our team was blessed with superior propagation. Tim's outstanding
20 meter team made up the difference and more, but we were fortunate
to get a last minute 10 meter opening for an hour on Sunday afternoon
after a bleak weekend for our primary 10 meter operator, Roger K1DQV.
Our 160, 80 and 15 meter teams also capitalized on more favorable
propagation on the east coast this weekend.
Its gratifying to see the steadily improving crop of multi-multi
stations nipping at our heels. Especially noteworthy is the apparent
third place finish of PVRC's up and coming NR4M multi-multi team.
Congratulations also to former W3LPL multi-multi team members who
made major contributions to very successful multi-operator efforts
at NR4M, K1XM, K1AR, KT3Y, N6RO and others.
This year marks 50 years of ham radio for W3LPL. It all started at the
W1OP Field Day on Neutaconkanut Hill in 1959. This will be our 20th
first place multi-multi USA finish in the ARRL CW DX Contest, if our
slim lead over the K3LR team holds up to log checking. Its also the
45th anniversary of my first #1 USA finish in the 1964 ARRL CW DX Contest
(SOAB low power), when I was a high school student.
Lets hope for even better conditions and strong competition in the ARRL SSB DX
Contest!
