Comments:
Kind of a last minute decision to do this one. Never decided until a month
before. The only full-time ops that signed up were W0UA, AA0RS, K7NV and W1XE
and K0RF. But as it worked out, many others came out and made great
contributions. New to K0RF operations were W0ZP, W2UP, AC0DS. Other old
friends stopped by for a turn in the chair. These included W0CGR, N4VI and
W2CO. We were pretty well manned most of the time.
Had a couple failures. The biggest was the failure of my supply that powered
three of my amps. (40M 2K, 15M 3-1000 and 10M 3-1000) We had to scramble to
get other stuff in their places. We lost our dual position on 40M in the
process.
K7NV was such a big contributor to both the preparation and the operation. He
arrived a week early with climbing rig and was ready to go. We worked all week
to ready as much as possible. Then he operated most of the 48 to contribute
many qsos and mults. This guy is quite the tower work specialist. I highly
recommend getting his help if you need it.
AA0RS spent the two weeks before the test fixing amps, rigs and filters and
then did his magic on 160 and 40.
W0UA was a dynamo jumping from rig to rig and running rate like no other as
usual. All of the new guys who hadn't seen it before couldn't stop talking
about his skill.
W1XE continues to do the impossible on bands that I thought were dead. He sat
at 15M long after I would have quit and kept pulling out new mults.
W0ZP was a big and welcome surprise. He came in to a new situation and ran
rate on 40 and twenty. I hope he will come back for more efforts.
AC0DS and W2CO did a great job on 10M.
W2UP did a great job on Saturday on 15M. I hope he will have more time for the
next one.
W0CGR and N4VI stopped by for a few QSOs when we were in need.
I had a great time and can't wait for the next one.
Thanks for hearing the weak station from the West.
There wer a few Grand Mesa members who will credit their share of the score to
the club.
73,
Chuck
