Comments:
Conditions were fairly good here in central Alberta with lengthy European
openings both days. Our midnight polar opening to Europe was poor however.
Missed zones 26, 29 and 37 as well as DE and MB. The two 20m stacks (one with 3
5 ele yagis on 160 ft tower and the other with 4 on a 200 foot tower)at VE6JY
worked great. Only had to turn the top yagi infrequently to catch a mult. First
time operating assisted and was great to keep track of mults on the band. There
were spots for about 18 countries that I could not work. Called ST2AR for a
long while on Sunday without success. In fact, the Middle East seemed to be
difficult as I missed OD5O, J28AA, ST2AR, 9K2HN, A61BK, JY4NE although I heard
most of them but could not get through the EU pileups.
As always Don was a great host making the station available and making sure I
ate my meals, had a good supply of coffee and tea and making sure everything
ran smoothly. Rig was an ICOM7800 and Emtron amp that ran cool the whole
weekend.
