Comments:
I have always wanted to see what East Coast conditions sounded like during a
contest so I did a last minute, no planning trip to VY2TT (thank you K6LA) to
experience it first hand. The WPX SSB was the only slot open that fit my
schedule. Unfortunately, I did not have time to acquire a Canadian license and
had to use use VY2/K5WA. I can highly recommend NOT doing this. ;-) My
European friends had issues with the V and the W in my call. Also, I tried
saying "stroke", "portable", "slash" and anything else I could think of to
describe my call. It was interesting to see which one worked best with a
particular person but still very time consuming. I am glad to have gotten as
many Qs in the log as I did but I will find a way to obtain a Canadian license
for next time.
Some of the highlights were working A73A, several VU2s and VK/JA all pointing
NE. They were loud! We just don't hear that very often in Houston, Texas.
I also made a promise to RK9DM that I need to keep. I was on QSO 2999 and told
the world I would send a bottle of wine to QSO number 3000. I made a contact
but he was a dupe, then RK9DM went into my log as number 3000. Thank you
Eugene!! I know it is nowhere near the big scores that will win this contest
but it was a personal relief to make that milestone and I was giddy excited.
I certainly appreciate the opportunity to hear conditions like I heard from VY2
(Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Canada). It sure makes a contest a lot more
fun! (even if it was SSB) ;-)
