Comments:

On a whim I jumped into the contest after reading a suggestion on the SMC
reflector about trying to tune up whatever antenna you had just to see if it
would work - so I did.  I backed the shield connector off on the RG-8X SO-239
connector going to my G5RV and just fed RF to the center pin. Lo and behold, it
tuned up nicely and I had about 40 - 50 kHz of usable bandwidth before needing
to retune.  Most contacts were completed on the first attempt and thanks to
those who were patient and worked with me through the QSB/QRN/QRM when the band
hiccupped. Had great fun and it was nice to see and work so many SMC'ers too.
