Drove all day from sunny, warm Fla. to arrive after dark to a cold house
Saturday night. Soon ready to roll in the contest. All working well until XYL
informed me that the house heat was not working. Breaker tripped. Reset
breaker and back to contest. Soon there was another information broadcast
(loud) that the heat was not working (again). Breaker tripped. Reset breaker
and back to contest. And yet again, a few minutes later. Has Mother Nature
found yet another way to torture this poor would-be contester? Nothing to do
but quit to keep the heat on (XYL diagnosis). That seemed to work, although at
these cold temps, heat pumps don't do a lot of heating for the amount of work
they do. But alternatives kept us warm enough -- new gas log earned it's keep
already! Thought I could finish a few more contacts Sunday evening! HA! My
fault, this time -- there IS no Sunday evening!!! So, N1MM says I did 3 hours,
but there were many interruptions. I think my poor simple Inverted
"L" with two elevated radials 180 degrees opposed seemed to hear
Eastern U.S. and even into the Mid-West fairly well. No DX! But I probably
had to 'resign' too early on Saturday evening to hear any of that. A valiant
effort but I'll see you again on 160M in January! Thanks for the Qs. 73,
Vic, W4VIC
