Two french operators spending a weekend near Barcelona Spain .. It was fun
despite the poor propagation, but managing a M/S with only two operators is
really a challenge.
Speaking of challenge, the first one was "how to do M/S at a station that
is basicaly designed for DX'ing" .. or in others words, how to manage the
limitation of having just one coaxial cable going out of the shack, and all
antenna switched from the top of the tower ..
To get full use of the big beam OB17-4, I had the idea to try the LBS
quadriplexer. since I didn't want to invest a lot, I choose the 200w version
and therefore it was decided to enter the LP category. Together with passband
filter, we were able to use the OB17-4 from the running and the multiplier
station. This works great and we manage to work a lot of multiplier from the
second radio .. Of course, during the night, just one band can be active at a
time, and we had to remove the quadriplexer from the coaxial to get it work ..
no automation, and a lot of PL connecting/disconnecting during the whole 48h !
another limitation was the same beaming for all 4 bands .. generally not an
issue except on late afternoon/evening when 15/20m was opened to US and rare
multi/Asia were appearing on 40m .. a challenge situation on what to do during
this time !
Since we arrived at 20h00 on friday evening at the station, we didn't had much
time to test everything .. and we discover the footswitchs will not be usable
.. so we had to do the whole contest with the handmic of the tranceivers ..
Appart from this, it was really fun to crack multipliers pileups with our 100w
on 40m .. the 3elts on top of the mountain is really a killing antenna !
See you from next one
