This was my first January NAQP SSB entry. This effort would not have happened
except for the "NAQP Challenge Cup" competition set up by SMC, NCCC,
and PVRC. It was great to see all the activity.
I blame Tim, N3QE, for this. The Potomac Valley Radio Club established a
"20 For 20" award - a special certificate available this contest
season for operators that contribute at least 20 QSOs in 20 contests that have
club competitions. Before I started on this, I really hadn't realized how MANY
contest entries that requires! :-)
Thanks again to John Evans, N3HBX, for letting us use his HF contest station in
Poolesville while he was in the basement using the HVF/UHF station! 40 went
long but provided a continuous stream of weak western stations until the end of
the contest.
Unlike CW, the activity on 160 was disappointing. The QRN levels on the low
bands started to rise Saturday evening making requiring lots of fills.
We were glad to have Craig, WA3RGH, join us for the first time. We really
enjoyed his enthusiasm. N3QE and ND3D also came to keep two stations going for
the whole 12 hours.
