Comments:
I planned ahead for minimal interruption for this one and it went well. I
probably lost 3 db of 20M signal due to ice on the antennas and the same on 15
and 10. All of the antennas except the 75M vertical which is seldom used anyway
tuned fine with the inboard tuner; the 80M dipole is tuned with a MFJ tuner and
fed with ladder line.
I was able to keep up a decent rate throughout despite the poor conditions on 15
and 10. 20 worked well until I came back from 40 at 2124Z and got no answers
from any 6's/7's. 40 could have been a lot worse producer; the skip zone was
long even at 2020Z. The highlight was opening up on 75M to a nearly continuous
run of 400 stations in 3 hours. Most of the remaining time I spent on 160 which
provided a few of 6's and several 7th area mults. WY7QP in WY was really loud
and CO was plentiful. Activity took a nose dive around 0415Z. If you were full
time and needed to operate much of the 05Z hour, you made a mistake. I took off
a half hour at 0220Z I wish I had back.
Many thanks for all of the calls; the rate was so good that S&P would have
been mostly counter productive. I noticed many casual ops stopped trying to call
in my pile up until it went dry and then still had to be encouraged to call
again. The high rates were a lot of fun; best 10 min rate was 234/hr, best hour
was 163 at 0003Z on 75M. The mults turned out okay. Thanks to Dick, N4RA for
filling in WV on 5 bands.
73, Jeff N8II
