This can be a difficult contest from the western side of Zone 4, and this year
was no exception. 10 meters was marginally open to Europe on Saturday morning,
but not so much Sunday. However, the JA opening near the end of the contest was
better than the day before. Go figure! There was a short opening Sunday to
Zone 3, which can be hard.
15 meters was also better on the first day than the second. We had a nice (and
long) polar opening Sunday between 19-20 UTC, and I even worked an OH on 10
meters during that time! VE7 was strong both days, which is a little unusual,
but it made Zone 3 easier this year.
Conditions on 40 meters at sunrise Sunday were the best I have heard in a while,
despite no one in Zone 24 being able to hear me. Europe was tough all three
days through sunset
It was nice to see so much activity from Zone 39 (3B8, 3B9, 5R and FR) and Zone
40 (JW, OX and TF). Thanks to all the operators who traveled to distant
locations.
