[AMPS] amplifier "audio"

I really don't want this to turn into a big thread that I don't have time
to answer each question, but....

Yes, RF amplifiers can and do modify the audio responce of a signal, both
"good and bad". A few of the AM broadcast transmitters I've dealth
with have sections in their manuals regarding amplifier operation for
certain "types of fidelity". This also includes interfacing to various
antennas which also modify the audio.
One manual had tune up instructions for music vs talk radio format! Go
figure...

It's an entire science unto itself. The absolute worse case is when the
station manager finds out there's another way to make the audio "louder".
Short of murder, I know of no cure for "program managers hear'us rectus".

< Not to be sarcastic to you, but the notion amps cause " good
< audio" or "bad audio" seems to come straight from CB band operators.

No, actually it was the broadcast industry...

> At least that was where I heard it mentioned first. They think
> class C PA's make the best audio.>>

Not entirely false, but not worth going into at this point.

> Not taken as sarcastic, did not know an amp had anything to do with audio,
> I assumed the audio could be bad if the amp had problems.

Yes to all the above...

In the amateur world, you could end up with "net control" audio... or
worse, "contester" audio...

cheers
