As long as the input swamping resistor is left connected the MLA will
provide a good input VSWR. Basically the same as Alpha did for many years
with their 8874 amps. 

If you "must" have a tuned input, then Omega Electronics sells a nice one
that can be mounted anywhere. It is toroid based and uses 12VDC relays
for switching.
