Thanks for the input on this, in particular N4ZR for suggesting using a half
wave length of cable (why didn't I think of that?)  Over Xmas I cut myself
an electrical half wave for just below topband.  With a 50R load on the end
the swr is <1.2:1 across the 160/80/40m bands.  Pruning for the HF bands
would be a bit more critical, but my application is LF only.  As it happens
the cable is about the right length that I need physically too.
