[AMPS] 3-500Z fils in series???

Hello to all on the reflector,
    Well, a friend of mine just made me an offer I can't refuse.  He and
I have made a deal on his homebrew KW affectionately know as
"Frankenstien" at a price I just couldn't pass up.  A brief description
follows.

Finals are a pair of Eimac 3-500Z with chimneys and pressurized lower
chassis via a large but quiet blower.
Power transformer and supply is out of an industrial RF heating machine
and is capable of much more than the mear 1500 watts the amp is designed
for.  Plate voltage is about 4 kV key up and about 3500 key down at full
tilt with about 75 watts of drive.  Uses a bank of 470Mfd 450VDC large
computer type caps to give 47 mfd at unknown voltage rating.  (I haven't
looked inside the amp yet and have not picked it up yet either.)
Tank circuit is a flat wound taper spaced coil with a jennings vacuum
variable on the load and a large air variable on the tune with turns
counters.
All in all, I like my buddy Bob's construction as it is as I would build
it myself, BEEFY!  A very conservative 1500 Watts output in any mode.

Now to my question.
He said he is using a "Henry" filament transformer and that the fils are
in series!  Never seen this done before.
Is this in fact how some/most/any of the Henry amps are built?
Any pros or cons for series filaments?
