Bra rutet Lars.

Looking through older mails on this reflector and Rich's often strange
messages in particular, I am starting to agree with you Lars.

I am sorry I started this DAF-discussion with my simple question on the DAF
and the supercathode. If I only had known what I put my nose into ....... So
fellows, lets stop it now. We know now the DAF works very well - it has
since many years a good reputation on this side of the pound specially in
Great Brittain - Norman did not use a DAF and is now out of the discussion -
Rich sticks to his opinion whatever we say. Just for the principle he will
never give in and talk about apples when we say pears. Or change subject
when cornered.

So, why did I ask about the DAF and the supercathode? Simply because I need
a lightweight linear to be used on charter trips. There is a fine 16 lbs
transistorized 1000 watt for sale at OH1RYs company but I thought it would
be easy to built a two-band unit that would not dissipate a lot of heat and
the DAF and the supercathode does that. Using cheap 8072s with simple
home-made anode coolers and muffin fans for transverse cooling ( similar to
the 8875 ). No heavy and big squirrel-cage fan needed. Light weight simple
voltage doubler circuits instead of a heavy anode transformer. Using PL
509/519s TV sweep tubes instead with filaments in series from the mains, I
could get rid of the relative heavy filament transformer as well. This could
give some 6 - 8 db increase from the transceivers 100 W which is enough for
the purpose. It works - PA0FRI described a DAF with four PL 519s in the
8/1992 issue of RSGBs RadCom page162 - he says it shows well in a two-tone
test and on -the -air tests were encouraging. PL 509 = 40KG6A.

By the way: a HAPPY NEW YEAR to all
