See if you can find a copy of Carl Spangenberg's,
"Vacuum Tubes";  was a classic about tube design;
1950's era also.  More about the smaller "rcvr" type
tubes than the larger xmitting tubes, however.  But
the principals are pretty much the same,  obviously.
