It is my opinion that 3-500Zs can be shorted in two ways.  Operation with 
the anode horizontal for a period of c. 12,000 hours.  Intermittent VHF 
parasitic oscillation.  Unless you improved the VHF stability of the L-7, 
you may not be out of the woods.
