Hi Peter:

Where might I obtain a sprig of rowan? I always find that my arsenal is
more limited than it should be.

You are right regarding replacement of original components. In particular,
the carbon composition resistors in the original parasitic suppressor are a
weak link. I need to do some testing of the various replacements available.
Many of the modern substitutes have much better temperature, aging and
humidity specifications, but I am not sure of vhf characteristics.

I have tested Corning Glass resistors up to 500 mhz and they are quite good.
I believe most of the modern film resistors are made with a spiral design
on a surface. Thus, they will have some inductance. Low resistance values
of 50 ohms may not be as affected as higher resistance values.

Original carbon composition resistors have very poor aging and heat
qualities. Thus, they should be a prime suspect to deteriorate.
