[Amps] melt ball memories

A while back while browsing the archives, I remember coming across several
posts about 8877's failing, melt balls, and such.  I can't remember the
details, and I can't find the thread.  I vaguely remember some posts voicing
the opinion there might have been some flawed production runs, and if anyone
recalls the details, especially whether 3CX800's were affected, please reply
to me off-list.  THANKS's!
