Three phase is common industrially, although there are strict limitations
where only one phase is being used as to how close you bring something run
off another phase, in case of insulation failure.

Which didn't stop some contract electricians at the factory where I work
wiring some lab benches with the sockets on one half of an 8 foot long
bench fed from one phase, and the other half from another phase - and a
different neutral, too!
