Possibly because regular soldering can melt under the heat of the circulating 
tank circuit current.  A mechanical connection is better for this area, there 
is nothing that can melt.  I HAVE SEEN IT HAPPEN MORE THAN ONCE!  Silver 
solder will work, but not everybody can silver solder so its easier to make a 
mechanical connection that will stand the heat better than a soldered connection.  
Don't know if you have realized how hot a tank coil can get?  VERY!  Cheers
