My two cents worth:

What's illegal, immoral, or unfair about sniping?  The only reason you get
outbid by a sniper is because he's will to pay more for an item than you
are.  The high bidder is the high bidder whether the bid is placed two
minutes after the auction starts or one second before it closes.

Simple strategy; place a bid for the maximum amount you are willing to pay.
If you win you got what you wanted at a price you were willing to pay.  If
you are outbid, well, you didn't want to pay that much anyway.

T'aint cheating, McGee.  Sniping is legal, although annoying to the
snipee.  I might have even done it myself a time or two...
