Ian,
We Americans ought not poke fun as I've seen many a Chevrolet and Ford leaking on driveways and parking lots. Out of the vehicles I've owned, and that's more than I can remember a number, I've had my share of leakers. Most leaks are caused by over-tightening bolts and rupturing gaskets, or gaskets drying out and cracking. Over-tightening causes the most by far in my opinion. Heck, I've seen a lot of oil filled capacitors and transformers leak like a sieve.
Best,
Will
PS: I have to say this. If there's any movie fans out there, do yourself a favor and rent or by American Pie1, 2, and American Wedding, or the whole 3 DVD set (3 movies). I laughed until I about busted on all three. If a movie was ever a 10, I'd give it to all three.
