[Amps] 230v wiring question

What do you do about an external power service line drop?  How large is one
of those drops?  What does this do to your amp or output power?

I calculated that if I wanted only a 2% voltage drop for my run and when I
went to my lookup charts I found he size wire I needed.
So, I went to the next larger size wire and used number #6AWG, three
conductor, and I have no noticable drop.
Over kill, perhaps.
