Getting back to radios, the point about the landing gear and confusion when
landing can be transferred to the amplifier.

I still remember, while in high school, we used to operate on 10 meter am
during the evening. One gentleman would break in and, although he was
close, we often had trouble hearing him. Soon, we figured out that he
operated his Gonset G-76 during the day on 20 meters, then would switch the
bandswitch to 10 meters at night. The problem was, however, that by
nightfall, his speech was slurred and his judgment for some reason was a bit
skewed - and the Gonset had a separate bandswitch for the transmitter, which
remained on 10 meters.

Lesson learned was that transceivers and amplifiers should have one
bandswitch, especially if they are operated while intoxicated or tired.
