I use an oil filter wrench when I want to remove the 3CX1000A7 in the 2M amp 
to blow the fins out or swap in one of the spares to keep them happy.

Although you've solved the problem I though I'd throw this out in case
some one else might have this problem.

Try one of the thin rubber disks used to get a better grip when opening
jars with the screw on tops.
