They generate lots of PIM. Do a search for PIM and read all the info there.

In high power digital modulation schemes, antennas and connectors are 
now rated for PIM. TDMA modulation can generate several kilowatts of 
peak power in combined transmitter schemes.
Even closely examin an N connector after it has been installed and 
removed? Lots of fine brass or silver "shavings" inside the connector. 
This is a breeding ground for PIM. 7/16 dins don't do this.
