[Amps] Clipperton-L question

What was done likely before you were a ham was simply the way it was back 
then.
Lots of WW2 BC-375 switches were used to switch HV taps even on commercial 
gear. Dentron just chose a cheaper way which usually didnt cause a problem 
for 10+ years. The higher line voltages dont help.
