You must differentiate  between what a technically competent ham (you) can legally do at home, and what may be done in a commercial equipment.

Plus what is measured on what is effectively a "Type Approval".

And remember that if you read some of the questions on eham.net, you are entitled to question the technical competence of someone with a US Extra Class callsign.....
