First, thanks for accepting to to the group. My question is for owners of
this amp or someone with a good knowledge of how it is wired to ac . I am
no complete ditz so read carefully and please go easy on me. I just got a
like new JRC JRL2000F which does not have a power plug on it. I have a
service manual on the way but after checking with someone who also has the
manual it doesn't address this issue acceptably. The power cord coming out
of the amp is factory. It has three wires in the cable. Red,black, and
white. The black wire is connected to the back panel/chassis of the amp. It
is connected to a bolt that goes through the panel to the back of the amp
which is a connection for ground. That is the way it is labeled GND. No
earth ground symbol. So now I have two wires left, a red and a white one.
The unattached plug that came with the amp is from Japan and is a 125V,
15Amp, non polarized two blade type. The red and white wires go through two
15 amp fuses into a relay box and to the switching power supply. I want to
be extra careful with this so I would really like to hear the wiring
possibilities. Here is my plan for operation. First I want to bring this
amp up with a 110 volt variac for a while and leave it on 110 for a good
part to the day to charge C6, the memory super cap. If all goes well and it
seems to operate ok then I want to wire it to 220 and bring it up to fully
test the unit. In WV we are allowed to connect the neutral and ground
together in the power panel. Some states differ. So to start if I want to
use a USA three conductor 110 plug would it matter the connection of the
red and white wires (black and silver screws) since it is a wide range
(86-264)switching supply? And should the black be connected to the
plugs ground connection?which ultimately goes to neutral. Long story, I
apologize , but this is so much different the most amps I have seen.
Utilmatly if someone has one working on 110 or 220 , I just need to know
what color wire goes where. I can bypass the 110 volt ramp up and just use
the 220 if necessary. Thanks, Rick. W8ZT
