Yes.  Along with little to no compression and making sure that the IF
stages aren't over driven.  The ALC/IF circuits of amateur transceivers
are responsible for a good deal of the IMD simply because of excessive
gain along the chain.  The PA must be over driven in order to produce
any ALC!
