[Amps] Are Amps Slow on the uptake? Or is it just me?

Jeff,

Some amps that have a mechanical relay for t/r switching can chop off 
the first dit in semi- or full QSK, but usually not more than that. This 
can cause hot-switching of the relay, which can damage the relay or 
other parts. In this case it's possible to use some kind of sequencing 
circuit, which prevents damage but still chops the first dit. Some amps, 
like Ten-Tecs, have the sequencing built in.

Some Elecraft K3s seem to come up slowly because of the closed-loop 
power control system. I think the power calibration routine fixes this. 
But this phenomenon is slower, more like you describe, with the power 
coming up over the first few letters. Elecraft K2s all do this, but 
there aren't so many of them around, especially combined with high power 
amps.

Maybe there are other transceivers with similar systems, but I am not 
aware of any.
