Subject: [1000mp] MP Roofing Filter from INRAD

Also at Dayton, INRAD have introduced a narrow roofing filter for the
FT-1000MP, MKV & Field. Filter is 4 KHz wide and provides the following IMD
specs:

            Signal spacing Dynamic Range
                 10 KHz 107 dB
                  5 KHz 100.5 dB
                  3 KHz 97.5 dB

This compares to IMD numbers previously in the 75-80 dB range for signal
spacing less than ca. 20 KHz.

$165 list price for the roofing filter ... I suspect many may opt for it
rather than spend $13K for a FTdx-9000!

When I visited the INRAD booth at Dayton, I learned from George, W2VJN that
the roofing filter is installed ahead of the IF---in place of the IF "hiss
filter" mod that many have installed presently. It is apparently an
"either-or", so that those with the IF mod will need to choose between a
quieter RX for weak-signal work or more-robust strong-signal performance for
contest work. As both a contester and a weak-signal DXer, I am holding off
making that Solomonic choice.

I am hoping George, who participates in this list, will add some comments
about this new product that will facilitate my decision.
