Thanks for the well reasoned reply Dave.  

I agree that incentives may well be part of the answer, as witness the apparent
upsurge in SS with Pins and Mugs.

My own personal opinion still favors a 24-hour SO category for reasons I've beaten
to death here.

On the other hand I really am trying to gather reasoned opinions from the "loyal
opposition", as one of these days I'll probably have to put on my CAC hat and
vote on this.  (Hopefully that vote is influenced by more than my own personal
bias.)

Thanks again for your thoughts, and yes, (when N0PGL allows me to grow it
over long contest weekends) my beard is "salt and pepper", heavy on the salt.
