Subject: 6Y WPX Expedtiion-Special Call
Hey, everybody. After posting my notice to go to Jamacia for the WPX CW
contest this May, I've received SEVERAL notes from PRefix hunters asking
to find a different prefix other than 6Y0.
I spoke with Wenty, 6Y5IC (my host for the trip) this afternoon,
and have been assured that another prefix is quite possible. I'm looking
at 6Y7, which has never been activated.
So, for those of you who wrote requesting I get another prefix, rest
assured; it's in the works. I'll probably go with 6Y7M instead of 6Y0DX.
Other plans for the trip remain on track.

Saludos. Hats off to Tree and John for the fine reporting on the most
recent event. Guess I better retire now and keep my record unblemished :-)
Can anyone explain to me how CORNO got "repaired" after its transformation
to CORRO? Is CORNO a known word out there in sprINT land?
On another note, having missed Visalia some 6 or 7 years in a row now,
I'd appreciate any anecdotes or important happenings during the event that
anyone would care to share with me DIRECTLY, of course. Please respond to

SInce a bunch of you asked for summary of replies, here's the gist of
them:
By all means, ground the shields at the base of the tower. Some suggest
grounding them at the top too.
A quote from one of Polyphaser's newsletters said "Do NOT, I repeat,
do NOT, coil up a few loops of coax. According to them (contrary to
everything else I've heard) the added inductance may acutally increase
coupling of a lightning strike to the coax.
Geeze - seems Polyphaser is one of the few written sources of info, and
they contradict a lot of what everyone else sez. WHo to believe?
Inquiring minds want to know!!

Radial Iqnuiry
I have a four element vertical phased array on 40
meters to the northwest of my 100 foot tower. I have a two
element vertical phased array on 80 to the East of my 100
foot tower. I load the 100 foot tower on 160 with a gamma
rod to 61 feet and an Omega match.
The 40 meter array has 40 radials, each 40 feet long,
per vertical. The 80 meter array has 40 radials, each 70
feet long, per vertical. The tower has 70 radials, each 90-
130 feet long.
I think my signal most needs improvement on 160 (the 40
meter problem was solved long ago by putting up a 40-2CD 2
el. Cushcraft, at 90 feet on a TIC RingRotor). I am adding
radials to the 160 system. In the past, I've tried to
solder 160 meter radials to bus wires in the 40 and 80 meter
fields when they crossed. I did not solder radials to
radials, just radials to bus wires. I mean that, for
example, in the 80 meter system, radials which head from one
vertical to another are soldered to a bus wire which runs
across the field, half-way between the two verticals.
Soldering 160 meter radials to the bus wire in the 80
meter field, and to the two bus wires in the 40 meter field
is a real pain. If you were adding more radials to the 160
meter antenna, would you continue to solder to bus wires, or
would you just lay radials across radials and let them be?
[Raising the radials is not an acceptable answer,
they'd interfere with my Beverage receive antennas, and
cross the nice yard (play area) which my kids use heavily.]
So, I repeat: If you were adding more radials to the
160 meter antenna, would you continue to solder to bus
wires, or would you just lay radials across radials and let
them be?
